THE INSPIRATION behind the making of THIS CAPSTONE
I believe in the principals of community and collectivity and that they have helped to maintain humanity in the face of massive inhumanity. Race has been an ongoing theme in my life starting from when I was born and raised in Germany to when I moved to the heart of diversity- Philadelphia. It was a huge culture clash trying to befriend people with completely different norms to what I was used to, but in the end I felt ethnically and racially unified with others. The experience of coming together as one is so imperative to humanity that I decided to make many stories come together as one in "My Magazine." In my Magazine called, "2014 Gatherings of SLAer's Humanities, Cultures, and Stories", I have displayed the works of some SLA students who have a strong opinion or feeling about their culture in how it defines them, or how their race has played a significant or insignificant role in their lives. Throughout this project I aimed to put people's voices out there because they matter. I wanted to impact other people who may come across a story because stories are impactful to our minds, hearts and spirits. So when people read other peoples stories through my Magazine, the important and critical thing that will happen is that they will relate to them or feel enlightened by them. And this- sharing, connecting with others, brings me great joy and inspiration to further aspire to make a difference in the world through stories.
