CALLIE MONROE'S CAPSTONE
Callie's was a senior at SLA last year, and she decided to do her Capstone on people's stories regarding their passions in life. Her Magazine inspired me towards the making of my magazine.
She actually collected one of my pieces of writing regarding Feminism. If you are interested to read it, it is called "An Unfortunate Equation" and is located on pages 22-23. Overall, this is a great project to browse and read through as it exposes people's opinions and voices. If you would like to read about stories which have a broader medium in shaping humanity, aside from my specific edge of cultural and racial influences, then you should go on the link which displays her magazine located below.

MR. BLOCK'S GLOBALIZATION WORK
Mr. Block is the teacher for American History and Globalization at SLA. His work always consists of interaction with others to better the community.
I happen to be in his 12th grade Globalization class in which I, along with my peers, were assigned to create a website that showcases the stories of Philadelphia immigrants, refugees, and adult education students. In order to meet the requirements for our class website, we had to do background research on different countries. We were then asked to interview a person from this country (with a partner), at the Welcoming Center. Specifically, we were assigned to complete at least three thirty minute interviews with a client at The Welcoming Center. After our interviews, my class and I had to make out a life story (consisting of 250-500 words) of the person that we interacted with. At the end, after everyone finished their research and transcriptions of interviews, we put together some great stories of the lives of our clients (see link below). We had to bring to life whatever was spoken in those interviews. We had to collect quotes, and capture a certain theme that we wanted our audience to focus on.
My partner and I wrote about a woman who was a former doctor and lived in Uzbekistan. Her story is called "Living In The Past and Present" on the website below. This woman that we interviewed would basically tell us that she is content with her life today and yet she was quite content with her life in the past seeing that she used to be a successful doctor--- a job which many Uzbekistanian women were not accustomed to having. Collaborating with her and my partner helped me understand more about U.S immigration laws in a personable way. Overall, the making of stories and human interaction that is always present in Mr. Blocks class is what life is about.
